A medium bird (14-16 cm), distributed from South Africa to Eritrea and Nigeria. It is a widespread and locally common resident over the eastern and northern parts of southern Africa. It inhabits rocky outcrops and escarpments and is usually solitary or in pairs. It eats seeds and insects.
