A medium bird (15-16 cm), distributed from South Africa to Angola and Malawi. It is a widespread and fairly common resident in southern Africa, except for the Kalahari and the eastern coast. It is usually solitary or in pairs, inhabiting rocky places usually near water. It eats seeds, insects and spiders.
